The Best of the Contemporary Czech Animation

Czech animation, which has long been celebrated both domestically and internationally, will be featured this year in a special program of short films made primarily by young students and alumni of film schools. This diverse body of work — often screened and awarded at numerous film festivals around the world — is characterized by a sense of creativity and humor, unique visual styles, smart combination of seemingly incompatible genres, as well as the courage and nonchalance with which it manages to captivate diverse audiences. In addition to personal animated documentaries and unconventional musicals, you can look forward to a reimagining of fairy-tale and mythological genres, as well as an intimate exploration of home — the theme that dominates this year’s edition of Animánie. The screenings will be followed by discussions with some of the directors behind the selected films.
