Leipzig, 1989. Twelve-year-old Fany takes loving care of Sputnik, the dog of her best friend Sophie, who has gone to Hungary with her mother for the summer holidays. However, at the beginning of the school year, Sophie did not return to class... Like many others, she fled with her mother to the West. Fany bravely sets out to find her friend to bring Sputnik back to her. In doing so, she witnesses momentous events that will change the future of the entire country.
