A boy from a mining town and a girl whose origins are shrouded in mystery are drawn into a treasure hunt hidden in the mythical flying city of Laputa. In the course of breakneck adventures, daring chases and breathtaking revelations, they must face not only greedy air pirates, but also the army and secret agents. Internationally acclaimed director and screenwriter Hayao Miyazaki has projected into the film his fascination with flying, his passion for classic European adventure prose and the fascinating late 19th century era that brought the rise of aviation and airships. Thanks to these influences, Laputa: Sky Castle has a distinctly European, almost Verne-esque feel, while retaining the qualities that characterize Studio Ghibli productions and Japanese animation in general.
